Museum
will be
hosting
FREE
farmers
markets
in our
East
Parking
Lot from
June
through
October
2009—on
the
first
and
third
Fridays
of the
month.
Browse
seasonal
offerings
from
local
growers
and
purveyors
including
fresh
fruits,
vegetables,
baked
goods,
local
goods,
plants,
and
flowers.
On
opening
day,
June 5,
2009, a
grand
opening
celebration
will
take
place
with a
live
cooking
demonstration
at 11:30
a.m. by
The
Hearty
Boys, as
seen on
the Food
Network.
Guests
will
also
enjoy
music,
food
vendors,
and
treats
that
have
been
cooked
in a
solar-oven!
Following
the
event,
guests
are
invited
to stay
at the
Museum
for FREE
general
admission!
Additional
markets

cooking
demos

In
conjunction
with the
centennial
celebration
of
Daniel
Burnham’s
original
plan for
Chicago,
experience
a
fascinating
virtual
simulation
tour of
the 1893
Columbian
World’s
Fair
that can
only be
seen at
the
Museum
of
Science
and
Industry.
The
Fair’s
White
City was
a source
of
inspiration
for
Daniel
Burnham’s
bold
1909
Plan for
Chicago.
Back by
popular
demand
and
enhanced
with new
visuals
and
content,
Dr. Lisa
Snyder
from the
UCLA
Urban
Simulation
team
will be
presenting
this
recreation
of the
famed
White
City
using
real-time
video
simulation
technology.
Tim
Samuelson,
Cultural
Historian
for the
City of
Chicago,
will
provide
historical
narration.
The
presentation
now
includes
exploration
of the
recreations
of
Columbus’
three
ships:
the
Nina,
Pinta
and
Santa
Maria,
which
were on
exhibition
at the
Fair.
Other
fascinating
new
elements
include
the
inclusion
of the
Convent
of La
Rabida
and
enhanced
imagery
of the
Agriculture
Building,
the
Casino
and the
Music
Hall.
